RJFC in Venice ~ March 2014

Every time we decide to take a trip, it’s difficult not to choose Venice again. I discover something different every time I visit. I left three pieces during this trip.

075-LXXVs

Ray Johnson Fan Club Relationship LXXV ~ “Putin offers new information about the birth of the universe” was completed 3/22/2014 using only trash from the streets of Venice on the album cover “Sheherazade: Artur Rodzinski conducting the Cleveland Orchestra”.

This collage was left the same day on the closed-up “Salumeria” shop, between the fish market and floating vegetable market along Fondamenta Sant’ Anna.
See where it was left below.

RJFC Sticker #44 was completed on 2/27/14 using only trash on a rectangular label. I made it while sitting at l’Excelsior restaurant in Mons, Belgium.

It was left in Venice, Italy on 3/19/14, on an advertisement poster for Boggi Blue Code, in the shelter at the Giardini vaporetto stop (above).

RJFC Sticker #45 was completed on 2/27/14 using only trash on a CD label. I made it while sitting at l’Excelsior restaurant in Mons, Belgium.

It was left (above) in Venice, Italy on 3/21/14, on a metal utility panel, just below a devotional statuette of Jesus at the Santa Maria del Giglio church near Ponte Duodo O Barbarigo. Shortly after I posted the sticker, an old man stopped to look at it for a full two minutes. After which, he promptly tore it off the wall and threw it in a nearby trash can.

Dust to dust…

RJFC Hits Madrid for the first time.

I’d visited Madrid once before back in 2004, but that was before I’d started doing any kind of street art. I have to say I wasn’t overly excited about going again, other than seeing our best friends from England who were meeting us there, but I must admit that it turned out to be an extremely enjoyable trip.

Here’s what I left while I was there…

074-LXXIVs

Ray Johnson Fan Club Relationship LXXIV ~ “MADRID continues to lead with ZARATHUSTRA ON THE WILD SIDE OF MY LIFE” was completed 3/7/2014 using trash found on the streets of Madrid on the album cover “Top of the Pops Vol. 31”.

This collage was left the same day on a wooden planter near the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain.

I also left two stickers in Madrid.

RJFC Sticker #43 (below) was completed on 2/27/14 using only trash on a CD label. I made it while sitting at l’Excelsior restaurant in Mons, Belgium.

It was left in Madrid, Spain on 3/7/14, on a light-blue mailbox at the intersection of Calle de Atocha and Calle de San Pedro. There was a massive line of people there which started two days before, for the devotional pilgrimage to see the Cristo de Medinaceli statue of Jesus, which happens every first Friday in March.

RJFC Sticker #46 (below) was also completed on 2/27/14 using only trash on a rectangular label. I made it while sitting at l’Excelsior restaurant in Mons, Belgium.

It was left in Madrid, Spain on 3/5/14, on a signpost at the intersection of Calle de San Eugenio and Calle San Ildefonso, Just down the street from our rental apartment there.

Well, that’s it for this trip – Hasta Luego.

Ray Johnson Fan Club in Florida 12/2013

Ray Johnson Fan Club hits Florida over Christmas 2013…

Ray Johnson Fan Club – Relationship LXXII ~ “Smoky Moutarde.”

This visit to the states wasn’t very productive artwise, but I did get to spend some quality time with family.
Ray Johnson Fan Club Relationship LXXII “Smoky Moutarde” was completed 12/2013 using trash found on the streets. I made it on a CDR that was messed up in my CD writer.
This collage was left 12/27/2013 in the men’s room at the Lucky Dill Deli (awesome sandwiches!) in Palm Harbor, Florida, USA. The interior of the bathroom had been painted in a graffiti style so it seemed like a good place to leave some actual street art, (see below.)

USING TRASH OFF THE STREETS TO MAKE ART ON THE STREETS.
I use only trash and found items to make these one-of-a-kind, hand cut and paste, signed & numbered artworks. I use trashy paperback book covers, record & magazine covers, CDs, posters, postcards and other mass-produced media as a base for my hand-cut & paste collages, which I usually leave out on the streets for anyone to enjoy (or destroy.)

Relationship LXVII ~ Terrible Experience

Ray Johnson Fan Club Relationship LXVII ~ “Terrible Experience”  My 67th Collage Relationship was completed 6/21/2013 while sitting at “Le temps d’un café” in Mons, Belgium.

Relationship LXVII ~ Terrible Experience

It was sent later that week to a fan in New York along with some stickers.

I really like the way my collaged CD stickers have been turning out and I wanted to make something similar as a more permanent piece. So instead of just doing a sticker, I did a proper collage directly on a corrupt DVD (one of the many that my disc burner screws up.) There is not any data on the DVD, though perhaps I’ll try doing that in the future…
This is the first time I’ve tried it and I’m happy with the results so maybe I’ll try working on old records too.
